This month’s Jazz@VN will feature the Carey Smith.
Carey T. Smith, MA
Carey has been teaching adults and young students how to play guitar and he has been playing jazz guitar professionally for twenty years. While his institutional education includes degrees from Georgetown Prep, Georgetown University (BA in Classics and music) and the University of Virginia (MA in Classics), he has studied privately with Tuck Andress, Steve Abshire, Paul Wingo and Justin Lees. Carey performs in the DC area and has worked with Chuck Redd, John Jensen, Dave Wundrow, Dominic Smith, Robert Redd, Percy Smith, Bertell Knox, Bhagwan Khalsa and other greats of jazz music. He has released two albums for Patuxent Music: Introducing C.T. Smith and His Sic ‘em Boys and C.T. Smith and Friends Play Harold Arlen. His third record, Birdy, celebrates music associated with Charlie Parker. From solo to quintet, Carey Smith offers classic jazz to accompany the guests’ experience; subtle enough to constitute “background music,” but deep enough to sustain attentive listening.
Acacia Bistro will be our host and will have special food and drink prices. Jazz@VN is Van Ness Main Street’s monthly celebration of jazz and food.
