Join us for Jazz@VN at Tesoro Restaurant on Thursday, March 22nd from 6:30pm to 8:00pm. Tesoro Restaurant will be our host and will feature food and drink specials. We will welcome Jazz bassist Tommy Cecil and Robert Redd on piano.
Tommy has been active in the Washington, DC jazz scene since 1976 when he moved from his hometown Baltimore, MD. He has established himself as one of the most in-demand players in the area. He has had long associations with many of DC’s favorite jazz greats, including John Eaton, Buck Hill, Charlie Byrd, Dick Morgan, Shirley Horn, Brooks Tegler, and the Redd Brothers. As a freelancer, Tommy has worked with Mose Allison, Tommy Flanagan, Joe Henderson, and many other star artists. Concert appearances have taken Tommy throughout the U.S. and overseas. Tommy is often seen at Blues Alley. And Tommy lives in Van Ness.
Robert is a current member with The Duke Ellington Orchestra, performing throughout the U.S. and abroad. Most recent tours with the orchestra have included Japan, Israel and London. He was a member of the late Keter Betts trio for 13 years and continues to be pianist and leader for the Wolf Trap Jazz Trio which was started by Betts’. From 1995-1998, Robert was pianist and musical director for singer/songwriter Kenny Rankin. He performs often with the Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra and worked frequently as a member of the Charlie Byrd Trio.
