Green Roof Tour
The University of the District of Columbia’s College of Agriculture, Urban Sustainability, and Environmental Sciences is preparing students to bring the traditionally rural practice of farming to urban centers. As a prime example of this, UDC’s green roof on a building at the Van Ness campus is a living laboratory for rooftop urban farming and green infrastructure. Graduate students with Urban Agriculture and Urban Sustainability concentrations, as well as participants in the Master Gardener Program offered by the Center for Urban Agriculture & Gardening Education, use the green roof as a classroom and research center. Students from our programs have gone on to expand green roofs across DC, increasing urban food production and managing urban stormwater runoff and the urban heat island effect.
Tour UDC’s green roof and hear more about sustainable agriculture from Sandy Farber Bandier, UDC Green Roof/Greenhouse Coordinator and learn about green roof design from David Bell of BELL Architects.
The tour is free but you must register.
