Van Ness Main Street welcomes Tayla Burney, our newest Board Member.
Tayla is the Events Manager for WAMU 88.5, public radio station. Prior to that, Tayla was a producer for the Kojo Nnamdi Show where she covered a myriad of topics relevant to residents of the D.C. region. She is the creator and curator of the WAMU in Your Bookstore series. She’s also the founder of a Facebook group for young professionals in public media, a topic she has presented on for public radio conferences and local journalism students.
Before joining the WAMU staff in 2011, she was a producer for HearSay with Cathy Lewis on WHRV in Norfolk, Virginia. Prior to starting her radio career, Tayla worked for the historical association in Coronado, California. She was born and raised in Brockton, Massachusetts, and attended Suffolk University in Boston where she was an Archer Fellow and English major.
Tayla is an avid reader who appeared on a ‘Readers Review’ broadcast of the Diane Rehm Show to discuss the novel ‘Fates Furies. She’s also an unabashed Anglophile and former military spouse who lives in NE D.C. with her husband and a very cute dog.
“I am excited to work with Tayla whose expertise will be a great addition to our Board of Directors” – Theresa Cameron, Executive Director of Van Ness Main Street
